Internet in Dallas at a glance
Most Dallas homes can choose between at least two wired providers. Spectrum’s cable network covers much of the city, and AT&T, a Dallas-area company, has built fiber through many neighborhoods. Frontier and Optimum add more choice in parts of the metro, and 5G home internet from T-Mobile and Verizon is available at many addresses. Satellite is an option almost everywhere, but most city homes have faster choices.
Apartments vs. houses in Dallas
Apartments and condos in areas like Uptown, Downtown, Deep Ellum and Victory Park are often pre-wired for one or two providers. Some buildings include internet in the rent through a bulk deal. Ask the leasing office which providers are wired in before you sign, and whether fiber runs to your unit or only to the building.
Houses in neighborhoods like Lake Highlands, Lakewood, Oak Cliff, Preston Hollow and Pleasant Grove usually have more choice, but fiber can stop halfway down a street. That’s why we check your exact address rather than your ZIP code alone.
Dallas suburbs have different options
If you’re comparing homes across the Metroplex, don’t assume your provider will follow you. Northern suburbs like Carrollton, Lewisville and Denton have Frontier Fiber in many areas. Eastern suburbs such as Mesquite, Rockwall and Forney, and fast-growing northern cities like McKinney and Frisco, may have Optimum. Spectrum and AT&T serve parts of most of them.
How much speed does a Dallas household need?
